Middle School

Grades 7-8

The Canterbury Middle School is a vibrant and welcoming arena for educational, emotional, social and physical growth. The forward-looking program has a rigorous curriculum taught by an exceptional faculty. This adds to the energy of the day-to-day interactions between students, teachers, learning and life.

Middle School students are challenged to pursue excellence in all aspects of their lives and are expected to develop the lasting desire to serve and achieve. The positive and long lasting relationships that evolve, not only in the classroom between teacher and student but also between parents and the school, are an unspoken cornerstone to the successful outcome of the middle school experience for our families and their children.

The college preparatory based curriculum for both the seventh and eighth grade allows all levels of learners to succeed. A challenging and supportive atmosphere is a benchmark advantage of the Canterbury experience. Enrichment classes are offered at the eighth grade level in science, math, English and foreign language. Additionally, students who qualify can opt to be enrolled in Upper School classes and may receive credit toward graduation.

At this point in their lives, middle school students find themselves wanting a challenge. We allow students this opportunity by offering a balanced choice of non-academic pursuits that are age appropriate and appealing. The extracurricular opportunities are plentiful and varied. Off campus outings, community service projects, team sport, band, drama and theater, art, a variety of clubs and academic teams, and the prospect of attending an out of state or overseas summer program all add to the Canterbury experience.

We believe the combination of a cohesive and talented faculty, a state of the art facility, a diverse program committed to addressing the needs of students and a family community that embraces the cornerstones of our mission help expand and preserve the excellent Canterbury education and experience.
