Need-Based Merit Scholarship

New students seeking admission to Canterbury for the 2021-2022 academic year, who are currently in fifth or eighth-grade are eligible to apply for our Need-Based Merit Scholarship.
Recipients of this award will receive one-half tuition scholarships to Canterbury. A satisfactory grade point average, student leadership involvement and a record of good citizenship must be maintained to renew the scholarship for each of the years in attendance at Canterbury. In addition, families who have qualified as need-based families may supplement the Merit Scholarship by requesting additional financial assistance through the financial aid committee. To compete in this program, parents must submit the following documents:

  • > 1. Complete the Application

    Complete the Need-Based Merit Scholarship Application with a recent photograph. In light of the pandemic, Canterbury is taking all precautionary steps necessary to protect our students and applicants. Individual testing appointments should be scheduled any time between November 30, 2020, through December 16, 2020.
  • > 2. Complete Required Admission Documents

    Complete the required documents and submit them by your scheduled testing appointment.
    • Provide copies of:
      1. Student’s previous year’s final report card
      2. Student’s most recent report card
      3. Student’s most recent standardized testing results reported in national percentiles
    • Email the recommendation form to your child’s math and English teachers for completion (Forms accessed on your student’s checklist)
    • Release of Student Records Form
    • Student Questionnaire: Grade Six or Grade Nine
  • > 3. Complete the Parents' Financial Statement

    Complete the Parents' Financial Aid Application (PFAA) and submit it with the required fee to FACTS Grant and Aid Assessment by December 16, 2020. When completing the PFAA prior to 2021 we understand the parents' inability to report according to 2020 W-2 forms. Families should estimate their 2020 responses to the best of their ability, based upon their 2019 taxes. For all PFAA application questions, there is a toll-free hotline available at (866) 315-9262.
  • > 4. Upload Required Financial Documents To Your FACTS Grant and Aid Account

    • Copies of parents' signed 2019 Federal Income Tax Return Form 1040, personal and business, and all schedules by December 1, 2020.
    • Copies of your 2019 W2 Forms
    • (Optional) A letter explaining any special or unusual circumstances that affect your family's ability to contribute financially.
    • For those students receiving the Need-Based Merit Scholarship award, copies of parents' signed 2020 Federal Income Tax Form 1040, personal and business, and all schedules by April 15, 2021.
Failure to submit the PFAA and required Need-Based Merit Applicant documents by the due dates will result in an applicant's automatic ineligibility to compete for the Need-Based Merit Scholarship. For further assistance, please email or call the Admission Office at (239) 415-8945.
Students must meet certain academic requirements, demonstrate leadership qualities, and schedule an individual appointment to take a qualifying test at Canterbury School any time between:
November 30, 2020, through December 16, 2020

Those who perform well on this test, and who have submitted the required school records and documents prior to the test, will be invited to participate in an interview with members of the Canterbury School Admission Committee at a mutually convenient time and date. Merit Scholar announcements will be made in February 2021.
