Our students will explore multimedia platforms and digital media for print, broadcasting, online and entrepreneurial ventures.As part of our CougarVision team, the students will apply their passion and strengths by developing documentaries, special projects, podcasting, photojournalism and live news reporting streaming for CougarVision.

  • Video and Technical Production Fundamentals (7)

    Providing students with a fundamental and technical understanding of video production, this course will teach students to
    manage the challenges of producing the Cougar Vision newscast through effective storytelling, sound, and lighting
    techniques. Not only will students learn how to produce a news segment during live broadcasting events, but they will also learn
    how to set up a technical crew backstage and in the booth for assemblies and music and theatre performances. Basic skills
    will be taught in the areas of camera operations, video editing, audio recording and mixing, storyboarding, screenplay and
    scriptwriting, lighting, directing and producing, set design, on-camera talent skills, and production management.
  • Entrepreneurship 7

    The semester course is designed so that all of the learning is active and the work is collaborative and team-based. Students
    will learn by doing as they are given real-world problems from local entrepreneurs and their businesses. This southwest
    Florida businesses are carefully selected and will present real, urgent business problems with hard deliverables and deadlines
    for our students. Students will learn marketing, finance, and other business disciplines, while also acquiring organizational
    skills such as time management and leadership development. The class is a vehicle to develop character, intellect, teamwork,
    and resilience.
  • Video and Technical Production and Entrepreneurship (8)

    In this course, students will continue developing a fundamental understanding of video production, technology, photography
    , and multimedia by effectively producing streams for our CougarVision network such as broadcasting, podcasting, and hype
    videos. In addition, as part of our LIFT program, students will be introduced to the fundamentals of entrepreneurship. They
    will have a unique experience by developing a pilot utilizing a Business Model Canvas that will help them to identify
    solutions to a challenge facing a local business. Students will explore topics such as marketing, brand strategy, ethics, target
    audiences, distribution, operations cost, use of effective marketing, and venture pitch. This is a hands-on/project-based class
    that allows students to develop leadership, teamwork, interviewing, researching, public speaking, as well as technical,
    analytical, and creative skills. Prerequisites: Video Production 7, Entrepreneurship 7, or Teacher Recommendation
  • Video and Technical Production Foundations I (9-12)

    This course introduces students to the fundamentals of the pre-production, production, and post-production processes of video and
    technical production. Students learn about the production of documentaries including effective storytelling, sound and lighting
    techniques, how to produce a news segment during live broadcasting events, how to develop a hype video to promote Arts, Athletics, and Academics, as well as how to prepare a video and technical production budget. Instruction is provided in the areas of camera operations, video editing, audio recording, mixing, storyboarding, screenplay writing, lighting, directing, producing, set design and on-camera talent skills, and production management. Students create a digital portfolio of their work, visit local on-air studios, and produce short films and live school productions. They are a part of our Cougar Vision broadcasting teams which produce weekly school newscasts, photo galleries, participate in live broadcasting of athletic events, and film academic and performing art events. Additional time beyond regular school hours is required for productions and live-streaming events.
  • Video and Technical Production Foundations II (9-12)

    This hands-on, project-based class is for students who have completed Video and Technical Production Fundamentals I. Students
    produce documentaries and special projects for broadcasting based on their interest in athletics, arts, and academics. In addition,
    this class allows students to create marketing projects to support their own social or business entrepreneurial ventures.
  • Multimedia Cougar Vision III (9-12)

    Students taking this course learn how to effectively use multimedia platforms and digital media for broadcasting, podcasting, and
    online reporting. As part of the Cougar Vision team, students produce a weekly newscast, documentaries, podcasts, special projects, hype videos, PhotoJournalism, live news reporting, and live streaming. In addition, students apply their skills to produce
    photography, illustrations, designing and writing stories, as well as developing marketing projects to support their own social or
    business entrepreneurial ventures. This is a hands-on, project-based class that allows students to develop leadership, teamwork,
    writing, design, photography, visual, and analytical skills. Students will collaborate with other teams such as our Communications
    and Admission departments. Prerequisite: Video and Technical Production II; students must have experience with multimedia
    production in all areas including the Arts, Academics, and Athletics.
