GETTING READY FOR 6TH GRADE - LANGUAGE ARTS AND STUDY SKILLS PREP

This course, for students entering sixth grade, is designed to strengthen and practice the fundamental skills needed for success in all areas of English. The focus will include, but not be limited to, reading and interpreting fiction as well as nonfiction; writing expository, narrative, and persuasive essays; utilizing print and online resources to conduct research; expanding vocabulary with Greek and Latin roots; and reviewing grammar skills. To prepare students for the sixth-grade curriculum and expectations, organizational and study skills will be reinforced. Students will work on their required summer reading assignment while exploring universal literature themes. This small class setting is intended to meet the needs of students in a cooperative summer learning environment.
