Getting Ready for 6th Grade - Language Arts

This course, for students who have completed the fifth-grade language arts curriculum, is designed to strengthen and practice the fundamental skills needed for success in all areas of language arts. The focus will include, but not be limited to, reading and interpreting fiction as well as nonfiction; writing expository, narrative, and persuasive essays using the Collins Writing Program; utilizing print and online research to write research papers, and understanding the correct use of MLA format. Students will also experience an intense review of key grammar skills. Finally, organizational and study skills will also be reinforced to prepare students for the sixth-grade curriculum. This small class setting is intended to meet the needs of students in a cooperative summer learning environment.
