Congratulations to Giana D. ’25 and Chase T. ’22 for both being selected as our Athletes of the Week for April 26 - May 2, 2021!
As an eighth-grader, Giana raced like a varsity veteran at the 1A Region 3 meet. Giana had three superstar performances and will advance to the State Meet in all three events! In the 4x800 relay, Giana was the lead leg and split a 2:27 over 800m. In the 4x400 relay, Giana, also as the first leg, ran a personal best of 61 seconds to put the Cougars in the front of the pack. But it was her performance in the 800m individual event that was most impressive. She finished in second place, (just behind Jess E. ’21) in a PR time of 2:24 and won the automatic bid to state! Her time puts her in the top eight leading up to the State Meet on Friday. Coach Charlotte Edwards shared, “Giana is the type of athlete that will execute a race plan with precision. She is both mentally and physically tough, and races with no fear!” Way to go, Giana!
Chase plays attack for our Varsity Boys Lacrosse team. In the Regional Championship game on April 30, he helped the boys win over Tampa Jesuit and now the team will advance to the Final Four in Kissimmee on Friday, May 7. Chase had four goals and had one assist with the game-winner off a Sean M. ’22 faceoff win. The Cougars won 8-7. It was an all-around team effort for all the boys!
