Canterbury Dedicates the Linda and Charles Idelson Kitchen

The Linda and Charles Idelson Kitchen was dedicated on January 26, 2023, before family, friends, faculty, administration, and members of the Board of Trustees. Linda, who passed away three years ago, and her husband Charles have held almost every role possible at the school, starting with parents, parents of alumni, grandparents, founders of the Grandparent Circle, and a member of the Board of Trustees. Linda was well known for her culinary skills, so when the time came to name the kitchen it was a natural choice given the importance of a good meal and what it means to be together as a family enjoying one!
Head of School, Rick Kirschner in his remarks shared, "That great schools are built upon great families and the Idelson family is one of those great families that Canterbury has been built." The Idelsons family have been members of the Canterbury community for almost 40 years, starting with their children Ileanna ’95, Jennifer ’01, and Monica ’03, and continuing today with their grandchildren Steele ’23, Darrbe ’32, Sutton ’35, future Cougar, Lottie, class of 2041!
In making their gift to name the kitchen as part of the Lucas Match, the family did so knowing not only the history of the school and the impact it has had on their children but also knowing the importance it continues to have on their grandchildren. When asked why he and Linda made the gift and why they have been so committed to the school, Charles responded, "Canterbury has a special place in our hearts. It was there to help us raise our children and it is here today to help guide our grandchildren."
The Lucas Match will end on June 30, 2023. Please help us meet our goal and raise the remaining $700,000 of matching dollars from the $7 million Lucas Match Challenge. To learn how you can be involved contact George Pappas, Associate Head of School, at 239-481-4323 Ext. 718 or
