Fourth Grade Coin Wars Bring Big Fun - and a Pie in the Face!

Canterbury Lower School students proved that even the smallest coins can make a big impact during the recent Fourth Grade Coin Wars, which kicked off on March 26. Blending friendly competition with philanthropy, the event invited students to support their favorite teachers—all while working toward a messy (and memorable!) grand finale.

As part of the “Pie in the Face Challenge,” students dropped coins into containers representing participating teachers, including Mrs. Truesdale, Mrs. Christensen, Mr. Rees, Mrs. Wheeler, and Mrs. Feyereisen. The rules added an extra layer of strategy: silver coins - nickels, dimes, and quarters - boosted a teacher’s total, while pennies deducted from it.

The goal? Help your chosen teacher come out on top... or sabotage the competition!

After days of collecting and counting, the final totals were in - and Ms. Wheeler got the pie! As the teacher with the highest amount, she was rewarded with a pie in the face in a hilarious send-off before Spring Break. On Thursday afternoon, students gathered to watch the whipped-cream-filled moment, cheering as Ms. Wheeler took the challenge like a champ.

Beyond the fun, the fundraiser supported the Cub Cave, a special space where students engage in hands-on learning about math, business, and giving back.

From strategic coin counting to cheering on their teachers, fourth graders made the Coin Wars a sweet success - proving that a little change can go a long way.
