Fourth Grade Takes Flight with a Water Balloon Drop

Fourth grade put their creativity, engineering skills, and problem-solving to the test during a fun-filled Water Balloon Drop hosted by their Science and Technology teachers, Mrs. Einstein and Ms. Raech!

Students were challenged to design and develop protective layers that would help their water balloons survive a drop from high above the ground. Using materials like plastic bags, bubble wrap, and other creative cushioning, students carefully constructed their balloon-protection systems and prepared for the big test.

Then came the exciting part! Students headed outside to the Iona McGregor Fire Department, where their water balloons were lifted high into the air on the fire truck ladder. One by one, the balloons were dropped from the ladder as students watched to see whether their designs could withstand the landing.

The Water Balloon Drop gave students a hands-on opportunity to put science and engineering concepts into action while practicing creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving. And, of course, there was plenty of excitement along the way!

It was a memorable way for our fourth graders to learn, experiment, and have a little fun with science!
