Representative Adam Botana Visits Canterbury Government + Politics Class

Students in Mrs. Louis’ Government and Politics class had the unique opportunity to meet and learn from Florida State Representative Adam Botana, who represents the state’s 80th district.

Representative Botana shared stories about growing up in Bonita Springs and his family’s entrepreneurial roots - from working in the carnival industry to helping run their local business, Bay Water Boat Club, where he now serves as vice president. He spoke about how these hands-on experiences shaped his approach to leadership, community involvement, and public service.

Elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2020, Representative Botana serves on several key committees, including Health & Human Services and Agriculture & Natural Resources Appropriations. He discussed his legislative priorities, particularly his focus on water policy and protecting Florida’s natural resources.

During his visit, Representative Botana offered practical advice to students as they prepare to present their own bills, emphasizing clarity, research, and persuasion. He also invited an engaging conversation by asking which student proposals had gained the most and least support, sparking discussion about the challenges of consensus and the realities of policymaking.

It was an inspiring visit that gave students a firsthand look at the legislative process and the importance of civic engagement.
