Canterbury First-Graders Welcome Fort Myers Mayor Randy Henderson

Our first-graders welcomed a very special guest earlier this month, Fort Myers Mayor Randy Henderson. In first grade at Canterbury, our students enjoy learning about community helpers like firefighters, police officers, doctors, librarians, and more.
Mayor Henderson joined the students in our Hilliard Library where he read a story with the students. He also shared a special picture and explained why he was currently bald. Mayor Henderson recently joined dozens of other leaders in the community in shaving their heads to raise awareness and support for local children with cancer through the Clips for Cancer event at Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida.
Our students enjoyed the chance to ask Mayor Henderson all sorts of questions, everything from how to do become mayor and how do you get votes to do you have to take lots of tests and go to lots of meetings? Mayor Henderson diligently answered each question with a smile. He also shared about being a general aviation pilot and how that helps him with traveling and attending all of his meetings each year.
Before snapping a quick group photo and heading off to another important meeting, Mayor Henderson offered these words of wisdom, “I would encourage all of you to be a mayor and to be a pilot, that’s my advice to all of you.”

Mayor Henderson not only leads the City of Fort Myers, but he is also the uncle of our very own librarian, Mrs. Kilfoyle!
