Canterbury Showcases Commitment to Service
Canterbury School would like to thank our community for their incredible support in teaching our students about the importance of giving back.
In November, Canterbury continued its 30-plus year tradition of teaming up with Nations Association Charities to provide local families in need food for Thanksgiving Break. Our community donated enough food to fill 72 boxes this year! Reverend Dr. Israel Suarez, founder of Nations Associations Charities, also graciously accepted a check of $3,044.00 to purchase turkeys for the families. Through the generosity of our Scholastic Book Fair, books were also provided to the sponsored families. Special thanks go out to our parents who helped pack the food boxes, to our seniors who helped load the truck, and of course to our Thanksgiving Food Drive coordinators, Ms. Gilstad and Ms. Garner. We would also like to note that additional food that was donated made its way to the Gladiolus Food Pantry to help stock the shelves there.
On Friday, November 22, our seniors participated in our Senior Day of Service. Students were divided into five groups and headed out into the community to help various organizations. One group spent the day at The Heights Foundation sorting and setting up for their Thanksgiving outreach event. Other organizations that benefited from this day of service include Habitat for Humanity of Lee & Hendry Counties, Community Cooperative, Nations Association Charities, and Harry Chapin Food Bank. Many of our students, including our National Honor Society members, continued the community outreach on Saturday, November 23, to help distribute our Thanksgiving boxes at Schandler Hall Community Park.
