Canterbury Receives Gift to Create Robert J. Fawcett Scouting Scholarship

Canterbury School is pleased to announce a generous gift from Robert Fawcett and Laurel Rosen to establish the Robert J. Fawcett Scouting Scholarship Fund. This award supports students entering Canterbury School in the seventh, eighth, or ninth grades who are currently participating in a local Scouts of America program and have demonstrated a commitment to academic excellence and student leadership.
As an Eagle Scout growing up on the South Side of Chicago, Bob’s life was greatly influenced by his involvement in scouting. The many lessons he learned proved invaluable in helping him face life’s challenges and ultimately succeed. In addition, Bob’s two children, Jackie ’99 and Robert ’02 are Canterbury School graduates whose educational experience greatly influenced their lives and for which Bob is most grateful. Laurel, through her many years as a special education teacher, knows the impact that an outstanding education can have on a child’s life and joins Bob in offering this life-changing opportunity.

“We are truly honored to provide a positive pathway for students to grow and learn at Canterbury,” shared Fawcett. “Laurel and I believe in the school’s mission, and we are pleased to make such a great investment in students and our community.”

Recipients of this award, Robert J. Fawcett Scholars, will receive a need-based scholarship to Canterbury. Involvement and continuing participation in a local Scouts of America program, along with a satisfactory grade point average and student leadership must be maintained to renew the scholarship for each of the years in attendance at Canterbury. “We are delighted with this remarkable gift and the tremendous impact it will have on the lives of students at Canterbury,” says Head of School Rick Kirschner. “This is a gift that brings leadership and prestige to Canterbury.”
