Canterbury Senior Named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist

One of our Canterbury seniors, Austin S. ‘21, has been named a semifinalist for the prestigious National Merit Scholarship. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation recently named 16,000 semifinalists for the 66th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.
More than 1.5 million juniors nationwide entered into the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program. To become a finalist, the semifinalist and a high school official must submit a detailed scholarship application with information about the academic record, demonstrated leadership abilities, community activities, employment, and honors and awards. SAT or ACT scores are also considered in the qualifying.

Austin will be eligible for three scholarship opportunities with the National Merit Scholarship program. There will be 2,500 scholarships worth $2,500. About 1,000 corporate-sponsored scholarships from 220 corporations will be offered. More than 180 colleges and universities will also offer 4,100 college-sponsored scholarships.

According to the National Merit Scholarship, more than 90 percent of semifinalists will reach finalist standing and half of those will be awarded scholarships. While Austin will have to wait until April to begin hearing about scholarships and being named a finalist, we have no doubt this outstanding young man will be further recognized in some way.
