Varsity Track is Ready for Regionals!

Canterbury’s Varsity Track Team had a fantastic day at the FHSAA 1A District 12 meet on Friday, April 23, 2021, at Evangelical Christian School. Several athletes will advance to the regional meet next Saturday, May 1, 2021, at the Community School of Naples.  
Three student-athletes were district champions in their events:
  • Senior Jessica E. ’21, currently ranked first in the state and eighth in the nation in the 800 meters, won the event with a time of 2:09:42.
  • Senior Dominic C. ’21 finished first in the 400 meters with a time of 50:52. Dominic also finished second in the high jump and third in the 200 meters.
  • Eighth-grader Ellie M. ’25 finished first in the 400 meters with a time of 1:02:38. 
    Two relays, the girls’ 4x400 and 4x800, took first place.
  • The boys’ 4x800 and 4x400 relays also advanced to regionals finishing second and fourth respectively.
Other outstanding performances qualifying for regionals include the following:
  • Sophomore Charlie M. ’23 finished second in the 800 meters.
  • Eighth-grader Giana D. ’25 finished second in the 800 meters.
  • Sophomore Gabriella S. ’23 advances after placing third in two events, the 1600 meters, and the 3200 meters.
  • Senior Jacob T. ’21 finished third in the 1600 meters.
  • Sophomore Lara K. ’23 qualified in three different events after finishing fourth in both the 100-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles as well as in the high jump. 
Congratulations to the 40+ athletes who competed in the district meet and the 50+ track team members who participated throughout the season! Good luck to those moving on to regionals!
