Inaugural Model UN Training Conference

MUN Secretariat
On Friday, September 17, Canterbury's Model United Nations Club hosted its inaugural training conference that allowed middle and upper school students to gain first-hand conference experience in order to prepare them for future competitions.
There were two committees within the training conference: the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), focusing on increasing access to nuclear energy, and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), focusing on the environmental consequences of war. Through the course of the evening, the delegates debated, negotiated, and collaborated their ways through resolving those issues, and performed excellently in passing their resolutions.

In the UNEP committee, Mexico (Addison Baggett) won Honorable Delegate, Libya (James Zurich) won Outstanding Delegate, and Denmark (Leena Abuoqab) won Best Delegate. In the IAEA committee, Sweden (Laith Abuoqab) won Honorable Delegate, the Czech Republic (Grady Lucas) won Outstanding Delegate, and Germany (Michaela Fischer) won Best Delegate. Congratulations to these students, and to all the delegates for all of their hard work!

In preparation for the conference, weekly training sessions were hosted by Rocio C. '22 and David G. '22. All of the delegates did an amazing job and made this conference a fun, successful experience that can hopefully become a Model UN tradition in the future.
