The importance of the connections made at Canterbury recently came full circle for one Canterbury Alumna.
Lema Abuoqab ’20 is in her second year at Tufts University. She serves as an executive board member for her school’s chapter of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and is involved in research at Tufts Medical Center’s Mother Infant Research Institution.
On November 17, Lema invited Mrs. Christiana Deeter, our Upper School Chemistry teacher, to speak via Zoom with Tufts undergraduates about the cancer research she has done. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Furman University and she is certified by the American Chemical Society. Her work on a novel photodynamic cancer therapy was presented to the American Chemical Society's annual conference in 2009.
Lema is passionate about research and helping others, and she is pursuing a biology major at Tufts. “I am so thankful that I had these lasting connections at Canterbury to carry on with me to my college career,” shared Lema.
