Canterbury Showcases Commitment to Service

During the month of November, Canterbury continued its 30-plus year tradition of teaming up with Nations Association Charities to provide local families in need food for Thanksgiving Break. With our donations, our community filled 77 boxes and 50 bags of produce to help feed 50 families through the Nations Association Charities. Reverend Dr. Israel Suarez, founder of Nations Associations Charities, also graciously accepted a check of $4,113.00 to purchase turkeys for the families. Through the generosity of our Scholastic Book Fair, books were also provided to the sponsored families. In addition to those donations, we were able to provide 40 boxes of food to the Gladiolus Food Pantry. 

From making personalized cards for the families to decorating the boxes, students in every division had a hand in making sure our food drive was successful. Special thanks go out to the Upper School Sunshine Club for helping to organize our donations, our parents and teachers who helped wrap and pack the food boxes, to our seniors who helped load the truck, and of course to our Thanksgiving Food Drive coordinators, Ms. Gilstad and Ms. Garner. 

Each year our Thanksgiving Food Drive coordinates with our tradition of Senior Service Day. Held on the Friday before Thanksgiving Break, our seniors head out into the community to help various organizations. In addition to helping load food boxes for the Nations Association Charities, seniors also spent the day on November 19 working with Community Cooperative and Harry Chapin Food Bank. Many of our students plan to continue the community outreach on Saturday, November 20, to help distribute our food boxes at Schandler Hall Community Park.
