Six Volleyball Players Receive All-Area Honors

Six Canterbury varsity volleyball players were recently named to The News-Press All-Area Teams. Three Cougars received first team honors, most of any school represented in Lee County.
Congratulations are in order for Avery P. '22, Kayla H. '23, and Jordan C.'23 after being named to The News-Press All-Area First Team. The trio makes up half of the first team selections for 2021.

Avery P. '22: The two-time The News-Press All-Area First Team honoree led the Cougars with 191 kills on the season, also adding 220 digs and 44 aces. Avery closes out her three-year career with 563 kills, 561 digs, and 119 aces in 212 sets played and will be taking her talents to Nova Southeastern University in the fall.

Kayla H. '23: The junior middle blocker received first team honors for the second consecutive year after recording 189 kills and 52 blocks on the season for the Cougars.

Jordan C. '23: The junior setter compiled 434 assists, 171 digs, 107 kills and 67 aces on the season as she helped Canterbury record a 20-win season for the third time in four seasons. Jordan recorded a season-high 34 assists in a four-set win over rival First Baptist Academy.

Three other Cougar volleyball players received All-Area recognition. Aaliyah H. '25 was named to second team, while Chandler S. '23 and Olivia H. '24 received honorable mention honors.

This Cougar contingency helped Canterbury to a 20-9 overall record, the third 20-win season for Coach Castillo in four seasons. They also helped lead the squad to a district runner-up finish and a FHSAA 3A regional tournament appearance.
