Canterbury Celebrates World Read Aloud Day

Wednesday, February 2, marked World Read Aloud Day, a global initiative to encourage everyone to grab a book and read aloud to someone. At Canterbury, students enjoyed celebrating the reading event all week long with special guest authors and other events.
Ms. Debbie Hart welcomed several children’s book authors to meet virtually with her fifth-grade English students, including Shawn Stout, Sarah Albee, and Roxie Munro.

“It was really cool to learn about the process of creating books and how she draws the pictures to go along with the story,” Liam T. ’29 shared about virtually meeting author/illustrator Roxie Munro.

Our fifth-graders also enjoyed storytime visits from Head of School Rick Kirschner, Head of Middle School Sharon Laconi, Director of Libraries Kristy Kilfoyle, and Director of School Counseling Evonne Clapper.
