Boys Soccer Clinches Fourth Consecutive District Title, Girls Fall to ECS

The Canterbury varsity boys soccer team secured its fourth consecutive District 2A-11 Championship after defeating Out-of-Door Academy 7-0 on Thursday night at FineMark Field.

The Cougars got on the board early as senior forward McClaren B. '22 netted a cross from Harrison A. '22 in the 11th minute of the game. McClaren went on to lead all scorers with a hat trick and two assists. Teammate Ethan W. '22 opened the second half with a pair of goals, while Sam S. '22 and Harrison A. '22 each added a goal in the match. 

"This team is special," said head coach Kevin Schoensee. "They know how to move the ball around the field and keep defenses on their toes. And our defense is second to none."

It is the fourth year in a row that the Cougars have clinched the district title, but the team is hungry for more.

"It is an exciting time to be a Cougar. We now turn our attention to regionals. We have a few things to clean up, but these boys are hungry for another state championship... and I believe they can do it."

The FHSAA regional tournament will kick off on Wednesday, February 9 at 7 p.m. Semifinals will follow on February 11, culminating with the regional finals on Wednesday, February 15 at 7 p.m. The Cougars will have home-field advantage throughout regionals. They are currently awaiting their quarterfinal opponent.

GIRLS SOCCER DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP: Congratulations to the varsity girls soccer team on a strong, post-season push, defeating top seeds to make it to the district championship on Thursday, February 3. The Cougars ultimately fell to ECS 7-0 in the finale.
