Canterbury Dedicates The Abuoqab Family Tennis Complex

In recognition of a generous donation by the Abuoqab Family, Canterbury School held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, February 12, to dedicate The Abuoqab Family Tennis Complex.
The Abuoqab Family Tennis Complex is named in honor of Sana and Oqab Abuoqab, and their four children, Lema ’20, Laith ’25, Leena ’27, and Ghaith ’35.

“We are thrilled to see the completion of this exciting project that will enable our students to enjoy an outstanding tennis experience, whether they are competing at the varsity level or just beginning to learn to play the game as part of our after-school program,” shared Head of School Rick Kirschner. “The renovation and expansion will not only make our Cougars more competitive on the court, but we now have great spaces for our fans to cheer our Cougars on.”

To officially mark the opening of the new complex, ninth-grader Laith cut the ribbon alongside his family. It didn’t take long before the courts came to life for the annual Cougar Tennis Open.

In addition to the Abuoqab Family, we would like to recognize our families who supported this project: Jason and Melissa Eisele, William and Lynette Cooke, Juan Teodoro and Erin Taylor, Jarrod Holt and Jaclyn Gorovoy Holt ’04, Alyse and Rob Growhowki, Baoyan Zhang and Li Li, Brian ’92 and Becky Lucas, and two anonymous donors, including a gift in memory of Codrin Cojanu.

For those wishing to join the Abuoqab Family in making an impact on the educational co-curricular experience at Canterbury, please contact Associate Head of School George Pappas at 239-481-4323 Ext. 718 or gpappas@canterburyfortmyers.org as there are a few naming opportunities still available
