Athlete of the Week: February 7-13, 2022
Congratulations to varsity soccer player Jimmy P. '22 on being selected as our Athlete of the Week for the week of February 7-13, 2022.
Coach Bear Bryant famously said, "Defense wins championship". This senior defensive midfielder has helped lead the Cougars to consecutive Private 8, district and regional championships, and now a trip back to the Final Four. Jimmy's defensive dominance has contributed to seven straight Cougar victories, holding all opponents scoreless, while only allowing 11 total shots on goal in seven games.
"Jimmy's senior leadership and on-field communication is really elevating the level of defensive play as we advance deep into the state tournament," said head soccer coach Kevin Schoensee. "The team continues to improve every game. We are playing our best soccer at the right time, large in part to Jimmy's defensive presence."
Jimmy helped lead the Cougars to its second consecutive Final Four appearance after defeating Shorecrest Preparatory School 3-0 in the regional finals on Wednesday night at FineMark Field. Canterbury will host the state semifinal game on Sunday, February 20 at 3 p.m. against Scheck Hillel Community School. There will be a mandatory FHSAA $9 entry fee for the state semifinal.
