Boys Soccer Punches Ticket to Final Four

The varsity boys soccer team is headed back to the state Final Four after defeating Shorecrest Preparatory School 3-0 in the regional final.
The Cougars got on the board in the first half from a cross into the 18-yard box and never looked back. McClaren B. '22 netted two goals in the second half to solidify the shutout. McClaren has scored 27 goals on the season, tied for most in the area.

“That was a very quality team we played,” said head coach Kevin Schoensee said. “Our boys hit on all cylinders, and never backed down, controlling it from beginning to end, and I’m very proud of that.”

The win over Shorecrest was a sweet one, as the Cougars avenged a bitter-sweet, overtime loss to the Lions in 2019 regional finals. With the win, Canterbury extended its shutout streak to eight, and has outscored its opponents 52-1.

Canterbury now turns its attention to the state semifinals on Sunday, February 20. The Cougars will host Scheck Hillel at 3 p.m. at FineMark Field for a chance to defend its 2A State Championship title.
