Youngquist Sweat '04 Inducted into FGCU Athletics Hall of Fame

Youngquist Sweat joins an illustrious list of inaugural inductees that include: Boston Red Sox pitcher Chris Sale, Duane Swanson, Sr., Ben Hill Griffin III, former FGCU president Dr. William Merwin, and 2012-13 Dunk City Men’s Basketball team.

“I am not sure I can put into words what being one of the inaugural inductees in the FGCU Athletics Hall of Fame means to me. It is such an honor not just to be inducted into the first hall of fame class, but to share it with some really incredible people,” said Youngquist Sweat.

In her hall of fame speech, she went on to thank all of her coaches, from middle school to the Olympics, for contributing to her success and making her into the player and person she is today.

Youngquist Sweat helped lead the Canterbury volleyball team to two state championships before heading to FGCU to help anchor its inaugural volleyball team. She finished her four-year college career with 1,173 kills, 1,369 digs, 100 aces and 50 double-doubles. Her 50 double-doubles are a program record to this day, while ranking third all-time in kill and ace totals.

Youngquist Sweat transitioned to beach volleyball after her four-year collegiate indoor career, making her professional debut in 2007. She is a four-time AVP Defensive Player of the Year and represented the USA in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro as one of just two USA beach volleyball pairs. Youngquist Sweat went on to finish tied for 15^th at the Olympics.
