Boys Soccer Finishes Runner-Up in State Final

The Varsity Boys Soccer team's quest for back-to-back state championships fell short on Thursday night as The Pine School netted a goal in the final minute to defeat the Cougars 3-2 in the 2A State Championship in DeLand.
After trailing 2-0 at the half, Canterbury's Riley J. '23 pulled the Cougars to within one before Sam S. '22 tied it up with a free kick outside the box in the 70th minute.

Just when the Cougars had the momentum, The Pine School countered with a goal of their own with 52.2 seconds remaining to upend the defending state champions.

"They left everything on the field and they played their hearts out,” said head coach Kevin Schoensee. “There’s nothing I can say as a coach except I couldn’t be more proud of their effort.”

Even with the loss, this Canterbury soccer team has much to be proud of.

The Cougars finished the season with Private 8, District and Regional Championship titles, and outscored opponents 52-1 down the stretch.

Thank you to the seniors Sam S., McLaren B., Chase J., Harrison A., Ethan W., Jimmy P., Devon B., Jason K. Ethan J., Bryan C. Brayden C. for all they have contributed to the Canterbury boys soccer program.
