Canterbury Alumni Return as Teachers

Almost every year, Canterbury is proud to welcome back alumni as teachers, and this year is no different. Carson Swanson ’18 recently joined our growing faculty and staff to work in our Lower School. Learn more about her new role below along with other alumni who are proud to be working at their alma mater.
Carson Swanson ‘18 is finishing up her Bachelor of Science in Early Education at the University of Alabama. She has recently worked at Canterbury in the Extended Day and Summer Programs. She is excited to work with our youngest Cougars as a Pre-K3 Assistant Teacher.  

Oliver Goss ’17 has taken the lead in our Ancient World History classes in the fifth grade. Last year, Oliver taught U.S. History and World Affairs & Media Studies in our Upper School. Oliver graduated from Furman University with a degree in political science. 

Paige Pollock ’14 is in her second year at Canterbury working as the Lead First Grade Teacher. Paige earned her Master of Science in Elementary Education from Johns Hopkins University. She also has her bachelor’s degree in family and child sciences with minors in education, psychology, and sociology from Florida State University. Paige joined Canterbury’s faculty in 2021 coming from Riverdale Elementary in Riverdale, Maryland, a suburb of Washington, D.C., where she taught third and fourth grade. She has also taught fifth-grade students with the Teach for America program in Philadelphia, and second grade in Tallahassee. Paige is a proud Canterbury Lifer from the Class of 2014 and loves being part of Canterbury School’s Lower School team.

Emma Frank ’17 is in her second year at Canterbury, and enjoying her role as an Upper School Social Sciences Teacher. Emma earned her Bachelor of Art in Psychology and Sociology with minors in Education and Spanish from the University of Miami. Emma had worked with our Extended Day and Summer Programs, as well as tutoring Canterbury students before taking the reins of our Psychology classes in our Upper School.

Cindy Lyons ’99 has been working at Canterbury since 2016. Cindy holds a Master's degree from Florida Gulf Coast University and is an integral part of Canterbury’s Upper School. Cindy works in the office of the Registrar and College Guidance along with being the Upper School Community Service Coordinator.   

Kim West ’87 When you think about someone who truly loves Canterbury, Kim West’s name definitely comes to mind. She is not only a graduate of Canterbury’s Class of 1987, but she came back to teach at our great school not once, but twice! On top of her love for Canterbury, she is also the epitome of a lifelong learner. Kim holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Rollins College, a Master of Arts in English from Middlebury College, and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Columbia University. She also completed the Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Program at Goucher College. Canterbury is grateful to have Kim as a Middle School History Teacher.
 

Matt May ’15 is going into his third year of teaching at Canterbury, currently working with our Cougar Vision team assisting students with video editing. Matt graduated from The Savannah College of Art and Design with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in film and television production.
