Canterbury Honors Retiring Faculty and Staff

Two longtime faculty and staff members are retiring following successful careers at Canterbury School. Together, Carl Melamet and Norma Aviles contributed 55 years of service to our great school.
Carl Melamet shared 25 years with Canterbury in countless roles, including leading students in experiments in the classroom, guiding teachers as Dean of Faculty, and taking charge of academics as Head of Upper School and Associate Head of School for Academics. “He has made a tremendous impact on the lives of our students, and we are grateful to have had his knowledge and expertise for so many years,” shared Head of School Rick Kirschner.

Norma Aviles is also retiring in December after 30 years of service in our Maintenance Department. “Her dedication to Canterbury is undeniable, and her welcoming smile is always a treat for everyone she encounters. We will miss her greatly,” shared Mr. Kirschner. Canterbury celebrated both retirees during our Faculty and Staff Holiday Party on December 9, 2022. Our Upper School wished him well during his last communal time on December 8, with a special video. Mr. Melamet also shared a few words of wisdom. Click here to watch.

We would like to extend our gratitude to both Norma and Carl. Thank you for your dedication and service to Canterbury.
