Riya S. '29 Repeats As Spelling Bee Champion

Congratulations to Riya S. '29 on winning the 2023 Canterbury Middle School Spelling Bee. This is the second year in a row Riya has won the school-wide competition.
"I am so proud of each of our contestants," shared Middle School English teacher Mrs. Brook. "It is not easy to withstand that kind of pressure, and each of them handled it with grace."

The spelling bee field consisted of 18 competitors from grades 5-8. Each grade previously held a class-wide competition, with the top performers selected to represent their grade in the school-wide spelling bee on Monday, January 30 in the Performing Arts Center.

The 18-person field was narrowed down to two, with Riya and Lily M. '29 dueling it out in an intense spell off. Riya finished it off with the winning word: Architrave. Both spellers will now represent Canterbury at the Lee County Spelling Bee on March 9 at 7 p.m. at Three Oaks Middle School.
