Canterbury School Announces Leadership Changes for Basketball Program

Canterbury School is pleased to share leadership changes for our basketball program.
Following several successful years leading Canterbury’s Varsity Boys Basketball team, Mike Hibbs is taking on a new position as Director of Basketball Operations. Hibbs will continue his role in the classroom as an English Teacher in our Upper School, in addition to overseeing the day-to-day organization of the basketball program. He will also serve as the Dean of Teaching and Coaching to provide support and mentorship to faculty in teaching and coaching roles. With close to 40 years in the classroom and coaching, Hibbs is looking forward to supporting Canterbury’s basketball program in a new capacity.

Elisha Murray will take over as Head Coach of the Varsity Boys' Basketball team. Murray played collegiately at King University in Tennessee where he made the national tournament two years in a row and earned All-Tournament and All-American honors. Murray started his coaching career in 2014 at his alma mater, Cape Coral High School. He joined Canterbury’s program in 2015 as Head Coach of the Varsity Girls' Basketball team. His accomplishments include leading the girls' program to their first 20-win season in 2018-2019 along with their first state final appearance where they finished as runner-up. The Southwest Florida Association of Basketball Coaches named Murray coach of the year in 2019. Murray also serves as Director of Court Vision Basketball, a youth organization serving Southwest Florida since 2015.

Camary Williams will step into the role of Head Coach of the Varsity Girls’ Basketball team. Williams has served as an Assistant Coach for our Cougars since the 2021-2022 season. Williams played Division I basketball for the University of Evansville where she led the NCAA Division I in steals and was named Defensive Player of the Year in the Missouri Valley Conference during her senior season.
