Canterbury MUN Hosts Regional Conference

The Canterbury MUN chapter hosted delegates from around Southwest Florida for a regional conference on April 23 in the Upper School.
Below is a details recap from MUN officers on the day's events.

DISEC General Assembly: In the DISEC General Assembly, delegates debated the salient issue of nuclear proliferation in the 21st century. Participants considered the problem from various angles, discussing the implications of possible regulations on nuclear proliferation. Ultimately, delegates created an updated Nuclear Proliferation Treaty, which worked towards nuclear disarmament while encouraging the cultivation of peaceful technologies and establishing unilateral standards for nuclear power around the world.

El Apagón Spec-Gen: El Apagón explored Hurricane Maria from the perspective of Puerto Rican owned businesses on the island. Our committee began simply with delegates being faced with hurricane related problems, but were quickly met with an angered governor who wanted to do nothing to help the island. Delegates were then faced with the opportunity to host island concerts with Bad Bunny to raise money for support. However, although their intentions were good, they forgot to implement security. These issues led to the death of the concert headliner of Bad Bunny, killed by Puerto Rico’s own governor. In a time of chaos, a group of rabid avocados led by the “avocadoer” took over all of Puerto Rico and held the island captive. The delegates took back power by turning the avocado government into guacamole and serving it to the US president.
