Cougar Track & Field Finishes Strong, Alex C. '23 Crowned State Champion

Alex C. '23 was the highlight for the Cougar track and field team at the FHSAA 1A State Championships on Thursday in Jacksonville, bringing home Canterbury's first-ever throwing state championship!
The senior javelin thrower made history with a personal-best throw of 56.52m on his first throw to bring home the title.

Rain delays put a damper on the state 1A state championship events, but that didn't stop Canterbury track and field athletes from finishing strong.

Newcomer Joslyne D. '26 reached the podium in the 100m hurdles, racing to a sixth-place finish with a time of 15.13 seconds. She also competed in the long jump where she placed ninth in the state, just missing the podium by 1/4 of an inch.

Senior Gabby S. '23 made her second consecutive state championship appearance, racing to within one second of her personal best time to finish 11th overall. To cap off the night, the girls 4x100m relay team of Michelle B. '23, Ellie M. '25, Cheyenne M. '26, and Josylne D. '26 set another school record on their way to a ninth place finish, missing the podium by just .14 seconds!

Congratulations to all of our track and field athletes on an amazing season!
