Canterbury's Theatre Department Presents Speakeasy Serenade

The new black box performance space in the performing arts wing of the Upper School has been transformed into a quaint nightclub dubbed “The Serenata”. The setting transports the audience back to the Prohibition era just before the Great Depression. The Serenata is a speakeasy where patrons can illegally drink and enjoy live music. The club’s owner has a complex past and the club is his escape. The story follows the life of the club and its patrons through 25 years of American music – from Ragtime, Jazz, and Blues to Big Band Swing and Rock and Roll.
With a book and lyrics written by Canterbury Fine & Performing Arts Director, Will Eyerly, and music written by Eyerly with his friends and former colleagues, Jason Stahl and Ed Legare, Speakeasy Serenade has something for everyone to love.

The show is free and open to the public, but seating is extremely limited. Speakeasy Serenade opens at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 24, with a second show at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 25. Both shows will take place in the theatre black box located in the performing arts wing of the Upper School, adjacent to the Rubenstein Courtyard.
