Join Us for the Spring Arts Prowl

Following the success of our fall event, the spring edition will feature even more student art and performances as well as a guest artist from Gainesville, Florida. Robert "Ponz" Ponzio's internationally acclaimed work is already on display in Canterbury's Upper School Commons and hallways. Prior to taking a position as Fine Arts Chair at Oak Hall School in Gainesville, Ponz served as a member of the Fine Arts faculty at the University of Florida. His work is featured in the Cofrin Gallery and is a prominent feature in the B.B. King Museum in Memphis, Tenn., as well as other venues. Ponzio's paintings are influenced by his international travel and experiences, especially in Asia and the Middle East. He is also heavily influenced by music - from jazz and blues to punk. In addition to his artwork on display, Ponz will be demonstrating and teaching metal work with a working forge in the courtyard during the event.

Of course, Canterbury students and their visual and performance art will be the main focus of the Spring Arts Prowl. Musical and dramatic performances from every division will be featured on the outdoor stage and student art will be highlighted in the Upper School Commons. Mr. Grey's art room will be open and reserved for senior art by Canterbury Arts Conservatory graduates. Seniors in the Canterbury Arts Conservatory music and theatre divisions will be performing as part of the program on the outdoor stage.

As with all Canterbury arts events, the Arts Prowl is free and open to the community. Mark your calendars! The fun begins at 6:30 p.m. and the festival-like atmosphere will continue until around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19. Patrons are encouraged to bring their own lawn chair or blanket and set up on the green in the Rubenstein Courtyard for the best view and sound from the stage.
