Solar Eclipse Viewing Event a Success

Canterbury School’s viewing of the 2017 Solar Eclipse was a success thanks to Mrs. Cara Summit and our Science Department. Students, faculty, staff, and parents enjoyed taking glimpses of the eclipse through glasses, special handmade viewing devices, and a telescope equipped with a special solar filter.

“Science teachers love events like Monday's solar eclipse. We are all about teachable moments! To see a group of students shooting pictures and marveling at the crescent shaped shadows cast on the sidewalk by the mahogany tree, was so refreshing,” explains Mrs. Summit, Head of Canterbury’s Science Department. “After looking at the eclipse through our telescope, one student said to me, ‘I remember when you taught me about this and it was way cool!’ Nothing is better than that!”

Special thanks to all those who helped with the event.
