Canterbury School Welcomes New Faculty and Staff

Canterbury School welcomes eight new faculty and staff members to our 2017-2018 school year.
Each joins the Canterbury community with a stellar background and a commitment to academic excellence. Please introduce yourself to the new faces you see on campus and welcome them.
Keara Trummel, Upper School Musical Theatre & Voice, Eighth Grade Musical Theatre & Voice
Keara is an accomplished professional actor, singer, and dancer who is very active in the Southwest Florida arts community. She is currently the owner of Curtain Call Studios, a performing arts studio in Fort Myers. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music Theatre from the Shenandoah Conservatory of Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia. She has been a regular performer at the Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre and has appeared there in more than 25 productions. In addition to performing, Keara has extensive experience teaching young artists through various camps, classes, and workshops throughout the area.    
Sharon Laconi, Middle School Academic Support Specialist
Sharon brings to Canterbury more than 16 years of educational experience, and prior to that, 14 years of business experience where she held several leadership positions. She holds a Masters of Arts in Educational Leadership as well as Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. Throughout her educational career in New Jersey, Sharon served on many district initiatives as well as a board member for the Morris Educational Foundation. Sharon has experience working with Pre-K through middle school students. Her philosophy is to promote academic excellence by empowering students to set and achieve high standards, develop problem-solving skills, make responsible decisions, and become lifelong learners.
Silvia Zavala-Flores, Lower School Spanish
Silvia joins us from The Sanibel School where she taught Spanish for five years to students in kindergarten through eighth grade. She also has five years experience teaching Spanish to pre-kindergarten students. Silvia earned her Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education from Instituto Pedagógico Santa Rosa Perú. She is a strong proponent of providing students with co-curricular opportunities to further explore the Spanish language and culture.  
Stacey Meagher, Pre-K4 Teacher
Stacey comes to Canterbury from Bright Beginnings Early School in Fort Myers, where she has taught for the last nine years. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Florida in Organizational Communication. Stacey has great experience in creating the curriculum for early childhood education programs that offer both engaging hands-on activities and real experiences.
David Wray, Upper School Mathematics
David has more than 27 years of classroom experience teaching all levels of mathematics from Pre-Algebra and Algebra through Advanced Placement Calculus and Advanced Placement Multivariable. He comes to us from Landon School in Bethesda, Maryland, where he has spent the majority of his teaching career. David earned his master's degree from Syracuse University and his bachelor's degree from State University of New York at Buffalo, both in Mathematics Education.
Mike Hibbs, Upper School English
Mike is an accomplished English teacher with more than 30 years experience at college preparatory schools such as DeMatha Catholic High School, The Bullis School, and Loyola Blakefield School. He received a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of Maryland. In addition to his work in the classroom, Michael is also a very successful basketball coach, guiding his teams to several district and state playoff appearances over the years.
George Pappas, Associate Head for Advancement and Strategic Initiatives
George joins us from Landon School in Bethesda, Maryland, where he has served in several roles over the past nine years, including Associate Director of Development, Director of Planned Giving, and Director of Alumni Programs. George is a skilled and successful fundraiser who most recently helped raise $51 million dollars for Landon's capital campaign. Following his graduation from Landon School, George earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also holds a master's in education and a law degree from the University of Maryland. He practiced law for eight years before entering the field of education. With his experience, we are looking forward to George joining our community and helping us take our fundraising to the next level.
Javier Torres, Video Production Teacher
Javier has more than 10 years of experience in creative communications and media. Most recently, he served as a Research Assistant and Communications Liaison for Vanderbilt University and Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. He has also worked as a Creative Director for Gannett Co. and an Adjunct Professor for Multimedia Design at Florida Gulf Coast University. He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration from Belmont University and a Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia and Journalism from Escuela Activa de Fotografia in Mexico City.
