Canterbury Artists Prowl the LSJ Courtyard
The popular Canterbury Arts Prowl festivals continue with a new venue for the 2017-2018 school year: The LSJ Courtyard. "We wanted to bring the festival to a different part of the school so it would be visible and accessible to all three divisions," explains Director of Fine & Performing Arts Dr. William Eyerly. "This year we move from the Upper School side of the campus to the LSJ Courtyard between the Lower and Middle School Divisions."
The Fall Arts Prowl will take place Wednesday, October 18, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Bring your lawn chair for the best seat in the house.
Just like last school year, the Arts Prowl will feature student art and performances from all three divisions: Lower, Middle, and Upper School. There will be both musical and theatrical performances on the outdoor stage, while 2D and 3D visual art are on display in the LSJ Commons. As with last year's events, there will also be a professional guest artist with work on display. This fall, the professional artist will be David Acevedo.
David Acevedo is considered one of Southwest Florida’s most prominent artists. Since his arrival on the scene, he has been crucial to the Fort Myers' cultural growth. Acevedo is a co-founder of the very popular Fort Myers Art Walk together with community leaders, art gallery owners, and the Downtown Fort Myers Redevelopment Agency. Most recently, he founded yet another monthly event called SoCo (south of Colonial) Second Saturdays, which intends to artistically enrich another section of our city.
The visual artist’s pictorial work is recognizable by the impeccably bold colors, textures, and clever compositions. He has, however, created darker imagery attributed to his silent resistance to conformity and established stereotypes. A notable part of his depictions is the hidden message or symbols, which draw the viewer into each piece and proposes an almost inevitable wonder. Mr. Acevedo will be performing a live painting demonstration during the event.
The Arts Prowl is a Canterbury community-wide event and admission, as always, is free. Bring your lawn chair or blanket along with the family on Wednesday, October 18, at 6:30 p.m. and set up in the courtyard for an evening of wonderful entertainment.
