Canterbury Students Win Big at 2018 Regional Inventors Fair

Several Canterbury students won top awards at the Thomas Alva Edison Regional Inventors Fair. The competition took place Saturday, January 20, at Alico Arena on the campus of Florida Gulf Coast University.
Liam T. ’29 won second place in the first-grade division for his “Focus Finder” invention, a device that you wear on your wrist that will vibrate when it senses you are losing focus during a task.

Austan C. ’28 won third place in the second-grade division for his “Flawless Filter” invention. Utilizing a light source and a light meter reader, his creation gives you a more accurate timeline of when you need you need to change the air filter in your home.

Riya K. ’28 won second place in the second-grade division for her “Sock ‘M” invention, which utilizes magnets to keep your socks together in the wash.

Myesha C. ’19, Arjun S. ’19, and Simrun V. ’19 won first place in the eleventh-grade division for their project titled “A Novel Approach to An Epigenetic Study of Neurodegeneration and Genetic Predisposition Using DNA Methylation to Test the Effects of Folic Acid on the Amyloid Precursor Protein in Drosophila melanogaster." The project includes using folic acid as a way to reduce amyloid-beta neurotoxicity. This team of students is dual-enrolled in both the Inventors Fair and Science Fair.
