Top Leadership Advisor Visits Canterbury

Canterbury School students enjoyed a lesson in leadership from top management advisor, Ken Banta. Our Upper School students welcomed Ken as part of our Leadership Institute for Tomorrow (LIFT) Lecture Series. The goal of LIFT is to equip our students with the real-world leadership skills they need to succeed in the future.
Ken founded The Vanguard Group for Leadership in 2013. As an advisor to CEOs and C-Suite executives, Ken serves as a sounding board and counsel as these executives take their leadership capabilities to a higher level. Ken also has significant experience working with top leaders to position and brand themselves, and their organizations.

Ken graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Amherst College, and he studied at University College, Oxford, as a Rhodes Scholar. Ken began his career as a correspondent and writer with Time Magazine for almost a decade, including as Eastern Europe bureau chief covering the fall of communism and the democratic revolutions of the region. In addition to his work with The Vanguard Group for Leadership, Ken is also a regular contributor to The Harvard Business Review.

Ken spoke with our Upper School students about “What Makes a Great Leader?” during an assembly on Friday, October 26. “A great leader is someone who creates, guides and inspires the team,” shared Ken. He followed his speech with a special question and answer session with a smaller group of students that included those who lead our LIFT program as well as those in our LIFT OFF Entrepreneur Program. Our students asked many great questions about Ken’s background and how it applies to the work he is doing now. We are grateful to Ken for making the trip from New York City to Southwest Florida to share his insight with our students.
