Both Junior AND Senior Thespian Troupes Headed to State!

On Thursday, November 8, our Upper School Thespian Troupe #5782 competed at the District One Acts at the Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Center.
Canterbury was one of twenty schools competing. The cast and crew of twenty theatre students performed #Viral, a drama by Maria McConville and received straight Superior scores from both the technical and performance judges. Later, Dr. Eyerly and the troupe were notified that their one act was selected to represent the district at State Competition this spring in Tampa. They will perform the one act at the Straz Center for Performing Arts in March.

On Friday, November 9, the Middle School Thespian Troupe #89393 competed at the One Act festival at North Fort Myers Academy for the Arts. A cast and crew of nine middle schoolers presented a drama about autism entitled Izzy Icarus Fell Off the World, written by Aliza Goldstein. Amazingly, Canterbury was once again awarded Superior scores in both Tech and Performance and was selected as the lone school to represent the district at Middle School State Competition in Orlando next January.

Both Thespian Troupes are directed by  Canterbury's Academic Dean and Director of Fine & Performing Arts, Dr. William Eyerly. The Junior troupe was chartered by Dr. Eyerly just two years ago. The International Thespian Society is an international organization founded in 1927 to honor academic achievement in general as well as achievement in theatre arts specifically.
