Canterbury Wins Third in FGCU Invitational Mathematics Competition

Congratulations are in order for a group of our students who competed in the 2018 Florida Gulf Coast University Invitational Mathematics Competition on December 14. Our team won third place in the Algebra I division!
Team members include Jason N. ’24, Krish V. ’24, Jacob A. ’24, Shanika F. ’24, Aaron Z. ’24, Tanish P. ’24, Ben V. ’24, and Alexa G. ’24.

We would also like to recognize Aaron Z. ’24 for placing fourth in the individual competition.

“It was a great day of fierce math competition. Look for this group to continue striving until they overtake the competition at future events,” shared Canterbury Mathematics Department Chair Caren Speier.

The competition is offered by FGCU’s Department of Mathematics each year for middle and high school students in six divisions: Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Statistics, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus. This year, there were approximately 140 students from every region of the state. Awards are given to the top 15 individuals and the top five teams.

Special thanks to the parents who attended the competition and kept the team on track.
