Local Artist Shares Story Through LIFT Lecture Series

Canterbury School students recently welcomed award-winning photojournalist and diorama artist Stephen Hayford as part of our Leadership Institute for Tomorrow (LIFT) Lecture Series.
Stephen graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a degree in photojournalism. For more than 20 years, he worked with several major newspapers and news organizations capturing photos of major events and world leaders. His work includes nine years locally as a photojournalist with The News-Press.

Following major heart surgery, Stephen decided to make a life change and turn his hobby of creating and photographing custom action figures and dioramas into a career. He now works as a freelance artist for Lucasfilm creating Star Wars-themed images. Click here to read Stephen Hayford’s full bio.

Stephen shared his story with our students during a presentation in Canterbury’s Performing Arts Center. “Personally, he's my favorite speaker we've ever had. His topic was really interesting, and his photos projections were really cool. It's inspiring to see someone make careers out of hobbies and passions,” shared Summer M. ’20

Our students also got the chance to do a group interview with Stephen through our Multimedia and Entrepreneurship class. Click here to watch a vodcast of the conversation.
