Where Passion Meets Possibility

Students choose from more than 50 electives across eight academic departments, ranging from computer science to visual and performing arts. Our elective program encourages creativity, innovation, and independent thinking while allowing students to tailor their education to their interests.

With more than 50 clubs and organizations, Canterbury students take initiative outside the classroom. From Model UN to Robotics and Science Olympiad, our students lead and compete in local, state, national, and international events, gaining experience, confidence, and camaraderie.

Our Independent Science Research (ISR) course guides students through designing and executing original scientific research projects. Participants compete in Canterbury’s science fair, with the potential to advance to regional and state competitions. Research categories include life sciences, engineering, computer science, and more.

Canterbury’s Upper School offers a range of Programs of Distinction that allow students to deepen their learning, explore areas of interest, and earn special recognition for their accomplishments. These opportunities reflect our commitment to academic excellence and the development of well-rounded, engaged learners.

Canterbury offers 34 AP courses, including the prestigious AP Capstone Diploma program. We are proud to be recognized with Platinum status on the 2024 AP School Honor Roll, with 95% of seniors having taken at least one AP exam and over 80% earning scores of 3 or higher.

Upper School students are required to complete 100 hours of approved community service, with a focus on off-campus engagement. This requirement fosters responsibility, empathy, and a deeper connection to the broader community. Hours are structured by grade level to encourage steady progress each year.

Each senior designs and completes an off-campus internship during May of their final year. Guided by a faculty advisor, students gain valuable hands-on experience in a field of personal or career interest, culminating in a presentation to the school community. Completion of the ISP is required for graduation.
