Enrichment Programs

Canterbury School is pleased to announce our 2018-2019 After-School Enrichment Programs. These classes are meant to encourage your child’s creativity and allow them to explore new talents.
  • Register and pay online in Cougar Campus to ensure placement.
  • Most programs will fill up, so early registration is encouraged.
  • Students may attend the Extended Day Program free of charge from dismissal until their Enrichment Program begins.
  • Extended Day is also available for $8.00/hr after enrichment programs until 5:30 p.m. No reservation is needed.
  • Student pick-up is in the Hanno Dining Hall. All students must be picked up no later than 5:30 p.m.
  • Programs costs are not refundable. No credit will be issued for missed classes.

Music: Guitar
This class is designed for beginning students with little or no experience on the guitar. Students must have their own appropriately-sized guitar.

Keyboarding and Coding
Students will work on their Keyboarding Skills with our Star Typers Keyboarding program.  They will also spend time Coding with our Ollie Robots, Osmo, code.org, Puzzlets, and Tynker.

Hands-on Technology
A great way to introduce your child to the world of educational technology.  The students will learn age level appropriate use of technology by using innovative technology such as Osmo. Ozobot, Ollie, our new Activ Table, innovative coding apps on our iPads, and educational sites on our laptops.

3D Printing
3D printing is at the forefront of 21st Century Skills. Students will use Project Based Learning to create 3D printed objects. They will collaborate in teams as well as work individually. Each student will also create and print a keepsake piece to take home.

Coding & Robotics
The students will get an in-depth look at the code and why it is important. They will complete different online coding activities and use their coding skills to work with our robots Ozobot and Ollie!

Karate
Traditional Japanese Karate instructors, Mr. Bernard Dougherty (7th degree Black Belt) and Mrs. Yuki Dougherty (3rd degree Black Belt) from Cape Coral's Kobayashi Dojo Est. 1986, will be holding classes at Canterbury! Classes will teach Japanese culture, language, traditional Japanese Karate, personal safety and values applicable to daily life.

Theatre Arts: Kids Take the Stage
This is an introduction to acting through improvisation games, Story Playback theatre, and even some simple scripts. Everyone is a star in this class!

Theatre Arts: Act Up! Junior
Students will learn even more theatre improv games, including long-form improvisation. They will also work on monologues, scenes, and short plays.

MUSIC: Keyboard Kapers
Designed as an exploration class for younger students, basic notes on the piano keyboard will be introduced. Students will learn how an electric keyboard works and how to play a song or two! Lesson materials provided.

Fencing
Activities will focus on: fencing related games and drills, learning basic footwork and blade skills, understanding the basic rules, developing basic tactical skills, directing and scorekeeping, and lots and lots of fencing! Bring a good attitude and be prepared to forget everything you might know about swordplay.

Introduction to Mandarin Chinese
Teacher Rebecca Yu He will provide students with an exposure to Mandarin Chinese by teaching basic conversational phrases (including numbers, colors, etc.) as well as basic reading and writing of Mandarin language characters.

Yoga for Kids
Playful yoga poses, animated breathing exercises and imaginative relaxation techniques increase a child’s strength, flexibility, coordination, and self-awareness. Yoga poses inspire creativity, as well as provide a sense of calmness and relaxation. Yoga provides an opportunity for children to learn something new, and develop self-discipline. Kids of all ages can benefit from the thoughtful poses and breathing that yoga requires.
