The Canterbury Cross Country teams competed at the Estero DDD Sommer Invitational on Saturday, September 2nd. There were 49 teams in attendance from Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Hendry, Sarasota, Monroe, Dade, Hillborough, and Broward Counties. The course at Estero Community Park is known as one of the most difficult courses in the state. It is a 3.1 mile - 2 loop course with hills, sand pit, and bales of hay obstacles. With the recent rainfall, the runners also enjoyed the 50 meters of knee deep water. Despite all of this, Canterbury had 2 runners, Jeremy S and Zach L, who set new personal best times on this course. Griffin E came in first for the Cougars and Luke L and Billy G also had nice races.
On the girls side, Jessica E and Elle E came in 1-2 for Canterbury, with Jess placing 20th overall and Elle placing 26th. Sam S, Bella S, and Michelle B had back to back solid races that earned the lady cougars an 11th place finish out of 30 teams. This team of five girls was the top 1A team in the varsity race.
The team will compete at the Fort Myers Invite this coming Saturday at the Lehigh Regional Park.
