Brenden D. '26 and Molly D. ’26 Win Love, Goodwill, and Trust Essay Award

Canterbury School is proud to announce that Brenden D. ’26 and Molly D. ’26 are the recipients of this year’s Love, Goodwill, and Trust Essay Award. The annual competition, now in its third year, invites juniors to reflect on Canterbury’s core values and how those ideals have shaped their experiences both in and out of the classroom.
Students were challenged to answer the question: “As a Canterbury student, what do the school’s core values of Love, Goodwill, and Trust mean to you?”

This year’s award resulted in a tie, with Brenden and Molly both offering compelling and personal perspectives.
Brenden writes: “These values of Love, Goodwill, and Trust, deeply embedded in Canterbury’s community, represent the missing element in today’s education system: emphasizing the need to shape not just skilled professionals, but also compassionate and principled individuals who lead meaningful lives.”

He continues, “Canterbury promotes a culture where goodwill is at the core of each and every student interaction—whether it be through community service or even simple acts of kindness.”

Molly’s essay, titled “Weathering the Storm with Love, Goodwill, and Trust,” focuses on how Canterbury’s values came to life in the wake of Hurricane Ian: “Everyone contributed, from sixth graders carrying branches to seniors carrying tree trunks. What could have been a burden to most became an opportunity to help and reach our hands out to each other.”

She adds, “Whether in times of crisis like Ian, or in the quiet moments of everyday life, it is our compassion for others that drives Canterbury to excellence.”

Each winner will receive a $500 Canterbury credit toward tuition or school activities.

Congratulations to Brenden and Molly on this well-deserved recognition!
