FAQs

Here are some frequently asked questions.

What if a teacher or student in my classroom tests positive for COVID-19? Will the whole class need to quarantine?

Our school leadership is in direct contact with the Florida Department of Health-Lee County to address any confirmed COVID-19 instances on a case-by-case basis. Several of our staff members are trained in contact tracing and will assist in this process. Parents will be notified of a positive COVID-19 exposure by either the school or the Florida Department of Health.

As noted in our health and safety protocols, exposure is defined as someone having close contact (less than 6 feet for more than 15 minutes without a face covering). However, if all involved are wearing face coverings, it may not constitute an exposure. By wearing face coverings and maintaining social distancing, our goal is to reduce the need for whole classrooms, divisions, or even the entire school to close and transition to remote learning.

What is the plan if a teacher has to quarantine/isolate due to COVID-19?

In the event that one of our teachers needs to quarantine or isolate themselves due to COVID-19, we have an action plan in place to provide a substitute teacher. If possible, the teacher may also teach the class remotely with another faculty member or administrator present in the actual classroom to support the students.

What is our procedure for closing a classroom, division, or even the school due to COVID-19?

We have several staff members trained in contact tracing and they will also be closely monitoring attendance to help us determine whether a classroom, division, or the entire school needs to transition to remote learning. We will also be in consultation with the Florida Department of Health-Lee County for their guidance on whether closing a classroom or the entire campus is needed.

Will Middle and Upper School classrooms be disinfected in between class periods?

Yes, because Middle and Upper School students will need to transition between different classrooms throughout the day, teachers will be disinfecting desks and highly touched surfaces in between classes. Lower School students will be staying in their homeroom classrooms with the exception of P.E., and regular disinfecting will take place. All classrooms and buildings will be deep-cleaned and disinfected each evening.
