Junior Thespians 'WOW', Punch Ticket to States
Canterbury's Junior Thespians are headed back to states after a superior weekend at the district competition.
The Cougar troupe, consisting of more than 25 students, competed in 10 different categories, including: costume design, duet acting, duet musical, ensemble, improv, monologue, publicity, scene writing, set design, and solo musical.
In addition to individual events, the troupe also brought to stage their One Act #Censored.
A panel of three judges in each event rates the performances as Poor, Fair, Good, Excellent or Superior. Canterbury is pleased to report that every piece received Excellent (8) or Superior (16). The troupe also received SIX Best in Room (out of a total of 14) and SIX Perfect Score distinctions, the highest marks a piece can receive!
"I am so proud of each and every one of them," said Middle School Theatre Director Michael Lynch. "They represented Canterbury with class, and the scores reflected their high level of professionalism. In total, they brought home over 40 percent of the Best in Room awards, just incredible."
Ari M. '28 (improv, scene writing, publicity) and Siena D. '28 (monologue, ensemble acting) received two Best in Room and Perfect Scores, while Carlie M. '28 brought home a Best in Room and two Perfect Scores and James Z. '28 received a Best in Room, Perfect Score for his Aladdin set design.
The troupe will now turn their attention to the state competition, March 13-16, 2024, in Tampa.
