Ismaeel Z. '30 Wins Middle School Spelling Bee

Congratulations to Ismaeel Z. '30 on winning the 2024 Canterbury Middle School Spelling Bee.
"I am so proud of each of our contestants," shared Middle School English teacher Mrs. Brook. "It is not easy to withstand that kind of pressure, and each of them handled it with grace."

The spelling bee field consisted of 19 competitors from grades 5-8. Each grade previously held a class-wide competition, with the top performers selected to represent their grade in the school-wide spelling bee on Monday, February 5 in the Murphy Sports Center.

The 19-person field was narrowed down to two, with Ismaeel and Lily M. '29 dueling it out in an intense spell off. Ismaeel finished it off with the winning word: Coccidiosis. Both spellers will now represent Canterbury at the Lee County Spelling Bee on March 9 at 7 p.m. at Three Oaks Middle School.

Congratulations to Ismaeel, Lily and all of the other spellers on an un-BEE-lievable spelling bee.
