Canterbury Congreso Team Brings Home First Place
The Canterbury Spanish Congreso team traveled to Orlando, March 7-9, 2024, for the annual Florida State Spanish Competition.
The Cougars received an impressive 20 Sobresalientes (highest score) and three Superiors (second-highest score), and placed first overall as a team out of 32 schools!
"This achievement is a testament to our student's hard work, dedication, and exceptional talent," said Upper School Spanish teacher Grisell Abad.
The Florida State Spanish Competition is an annual competition for high school Spanish students, giving them an opportunity to compete in the fields of poem recitation, senior essay writing, impromptu speech, and dramatic presentations.
In addition to the academic competition, Canterbury also participated in two non-academic competitions. Sophia B. '25 secured third place for her stunning performance of Mi Tierra by Gloria Estefan and Zoe M. '26 in her traditional Peruvian outfit.
