The cougars XC team opened the season on Saturday at Lehigh HS for the Lightning Invitational. Friday night thunderstorms made the Saturday morning races a challenge. Many parts of the course were underwater as high as knee deep. The 3.1 mile course had sharp turns and switchbacks making it a "slow" course. Despite these conditions the boys team got off to a great start for the season and the girls team took 1st place overall!
The boys were led by David Cato (21:55), closely followed by Jeremy Summers (22:02). Andrew McCallion (22:49) ran a strong race and was third finisher for the cougars. Zach Loveland (23:15) and Billy Gunnels (27:04) rounded out the 5 man team.
The girls were led by Jessica Edwards (20:49) who placed second overall. Elle Eisele (21:52) and Sam Stensrud (22:32) also placed in the top 10 with a 4th place and 10th place finish respectively. Bailey White (24:01) made her debut as a cougar with a solid PR performance. Mia Abatecola (25:01) and Michelle Barnes (25:29) helped the cougars to secure the top spot!
